Last week I had a couple of days off in the middle of the week and we were itching to get out of the house so we decided to go on a road trip. I’ve always enjoyed driving along the coast down Highway 1 and I was anxious to have Rotchana experience it for the first time so we packed up our bags and headed out. We left late in the morning on Wednesday and made our way to Monterey. […]
Early Saturday I drove from Roseville, Ca up to a hotel in Washington near Mt. St. Helens. Since I arrived much earlier than expected I drove over to the Mt. St. Helens observation point and took some photos. I’d never been before so I wanted to check it out. One day I’ll have to come back and spend more time hiking the trails. Perhaps I’ll get to climb to the top of the crater some day. On Sunday morning Tim, […]
On our second day in Chiang Mai we walked out the hotel doors and found someone that was selling tours. We had wanted to go see some of the animal parks we’d read about so we talked him into taking us to the various places for the day. The first stop was at a monkey school. We weren’t sure what a monkey school was, but we found out that they have about two dozen monkeys that they have been rehabilitating […]
A few months ago I was in need of a change of scenery and through a suggestion from a friend I took a last minute trip to Thailand. It was my first trip to Asia and I really enjoyed my short stay there. The people were very friendly and I had fun exploring Bangkok while getting a taste of what Thailand had to offer. My trip lasted only 5 days, but I saw enough to know that I wanted to […]
Today we took Haruka and Fumika to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Despite the large crowds they really enjoyed looking at all of the exhibits and getting to touch some of the tide pool creatures. Another favorite of theirs was the penguin and sea turtle displays. After spending a few hours at the aquarium we drove down to Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch. After confirming that they liked the clam chowder samples we found a restaurant with a table near a window […]
My quick drive out to the coast a week ago left me wanting to do it again. I had a last minute quick trip down to So Cal a few days ago so I had my opportunity. I normally would take Interstate 5 down to LA, but instead of taking the quick route (4 1/2 hours) back home I decided to take a detour and drive back up along the coast. This adds about 180 miles to the trip and […]
This past weekend we took Linh, an exchange student from Vietnam, to Monterey. We wanted to show her the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but first we had to take her down to the Old Fisherman’s Wharf to have her try clam chowder for lunch. Her parents own and run a seafood restaurant back in Hanoi, but she was not familiar with our clam chowder. Needless to say, she enjoyed it!
