Leavenworth, WA

We decided to take a quick weekend trip up to the Leavenworth area in Washington this past weekend. It’s a town that has always been on our list of places to see, and we thought this weekend would be a good weekend to go since the fall colors are starting to show up.

We left on our trip Friday afternoon after waiting for Victoria to finish up school. A few quick errands later and we finally hit the road around 4:00pm. We had plans to stay the night in Yakima so we had about 5 1/2 hours of driving to do.

We made it to our hotel around 9:30pm and checked in for the night. We were looking forward to sleeping in a little bit, but we also knew that the next day would have quite a bit of driving as well.

The next morning we drove about 1 1/2 hours to Leavenworth. The town is modeled after a small Bavarian village and reminds me a lot of a town in California named Solvang. There are a lot of different restaurants and pubs along with the typical souvenir shops. Despite Covid there were also a lot of tourists visiting with most parking lots full. There were also a lot of lines for tables at the various restaurants.

We walked up and down the main street, but decided to head out onto the highway and check out the scenery instead. We knew it would be crowded given that it was a Saturday and the weather was perfect, but we just weren’t up for trying to navigate the crowds.

The highway along the Wenatchee River was scenic and had a lot of nice places to stop to check out the river. As crowded as Leavenworth was, the highway and pullouts were equally quiet. We felt like we pretty much had the entire area to ourselves. Even the fruit stands we stopped at were pretty quiet in comparison.

We eventually made our way to the town of Wenatchee to meet up with our friends Tim and Jeannette for dinner at an Italian restaurant. The food was good, but the company was better. We don’t get to visit as often as we’d like so chances like this are great.

We made our way back to our hotel around 9:00pm and enjoyed one more morning of sleeping in before heading home. The drive home was pretty uneventful and we managed to get back home around 5:00pm.
