Afternoon in McCall

Rotchana was quite excited to find mushrooms on our last trip to McCall so she’s been anxious to go back up. With winter just around the corner this weekend was probably the last chance to go until next spring.

We left home around 10:00am and made the 2 hour drive up to McCall. The weather forecast was calling for a high of 40 degrees with rain and snow starting early afternoon so we wanted to get up there early and not have to deal with bad weather on the way home.

As expected, the conditions weren’t good for finding mushrooms. The ground temperature has already dropped below prime conditions. Rotchana did find a few mushrooms covered in leaves that were insulated against the cold, but those were few and far between.

We still enjoyed the hike and grabbed a pizza before heading home. We hit a little rain on the drive, but got home in time to miss the snow and wetter conditions.

We’ll head back up to McCall again this winter, but the mushroom hunting will have to wait until April or May. It’s going to be a long winter for Rotchana.
